Brits hungering for a gourmet trip to southwest France will be tickled pink at the news that Jet2.com is launching flights from Manchester Airport to Toulouse for summer 2022.

Toulouse, known as the ‘Pink City’, has fantastic weather, an abundance of cultural attractions, plus great shopping – but we think the real reason to visit is the food. After all, this is the home of cassoulet, Toulouse sausage, chocolatines and vibrant markets. Loosen your belts, Toulouse here we come!

For those of you with expensive tastes but without the budget to match, help is at hand: many of Toulouse’s top chefs, such as Michel Sarran, have opened more affordable versions of their Michelin-star restaurants to make their culinary creations more accessible.

Toulouse

The two Michelin-star chef launched Croq’Michel to celebrate his “guilty pleasure”: the croque-monsieur. Six recipes inspired by flavours across the world are available for delivery or pop along to the restaurant itself in rue des Filatiers in Toulouse’s Old Town.

Another chef embracing the affordability trend is Yannick Delpech, whose Des Roses et Des Orties boasts an open kitchen, patisserie and bar and offers exceptional regional dishes at prices that won’t break the bank. As well as its 28 Michelin-starred restaurants and the Michelin Guide France 2021 also awarded two Toulouse eateries − Hito and Cartouches − the Bib Gourmand, where diners can enjoy a three-course meal for a very reasonable £30.

For the sweet-toothed among us, check out Emily, a brand new “haute couture” pâtisserie shop that offers six desserts, in sizes S to XL. The brainchild of  pastry chef Emilie Bertrand and Michelin-starred chef Guillaume Momboisse, you can find it in the Victor Hugo Market.

While you’re there, take a foodie voyage around the covered market and taste the local produce on a guided tour with Taste of Toulouse
