It’s becoming rather a tradition – another year, another win by Nord-Pas-de-Calais in the best friteries in France awards.
This year, the region, in Hauts-de-France, claimed a staggering seven chip shops in the top 15. This year’s overall winner was Dunkirk-based Chic Frite (whose slogan is “nos frites sont fraiches!”), followed by Chez Delphine, in Cambrai, in second place and Friterie Hersinoise, in Hersin-Coupigny, in third.
It comes as no shock to French frite lovers – Nord-Pas-de-Calais has won the competition, which is voted for by members of the public, every year since it began on the les-friteries.com website.
In fact, only five restaurants outside Hauts-de-France made it into the top 15 this year:
- Frit’n’bier in Marsac-sur-l’Isle, Nouvelle-Aquitaine (8th)
- Frites Bonnel in Angers, Pays de la Loire (10th)
- Friterie chez Mel in Langres, Grand-Est (12th)
- Au Petit Creux in Martot in Normandy (13th).
- La Frite en Nord in Cherbourg, Normandy (14th)
So now you know where to go if you’re feeling peckish…
