It’s perhaps sacrilege to head to France and order a pizza… but when the pizza has just been voted the best in the world, it is entirely forgivable.
And for hungry Brits, the news gets even better – said pizza is to be found just a stone’s throw across the Channel in Le Havre, at Giacomo pizzeria. The restaurant’s manager, Jimmy Pestel, won not one but two awards at the Trophée Mondial de la Pizza, which was held in Menton earlier this month, and was named world classic pizza champion and runner-up in the world calzone contest.
Pestel’s winning entry was a smoked salmon pizza with a butternut velouté base, infused kumquats, samphire and roasted macadamia nuts. “But,” he told France Bleu, “I won because the jury appreciated that I used organic products, especially for the flour.”
As well as a mouthwatering array of savoury pizzas, those with a sweet tooth can indulge in a dessert pizza at Giacomo as well. How about cocoa and hazelnut spread dough, pistachio cream and macadamia nut bursts? You can find the pizzeria at 75 Avenue Rouget de l’Isle, 76610 Le Havre, or order a takeaway courtesy of Deliveroo France.
