Eating out can be a nightmare for people with coeliac disease, and considering that France is the undisputed capital of baguettes, bread and pastries, it seems like a culinary minefield at first… but recent years have seen a welcome crop of gluten-free eateries emerging.

We’ve combed up and down L’Hexagone to separate the wheat from the chaff (sorry) and recommend the following restaurants to start: Noglu in Paris, which sells everything from burgers to buddha bowls; the family-run (and Michelin-starred) L’Auberge La Fenière in Provence; and the brilliantly-named Vegan Gorilla in Nice, which was awarded Bib Gourmand status in 2019. Happy scoffing!
