Browsing through the stalls of a busy market in a pretty French town are one of the delights of a holiday in the Hexagon, admiring the colourful displays of fruits and vegetables, tasting morsels of cheese and tidbits of speciality saucisson.

And they’re not just for hungry tourists, either – the French take their markets very seriously. Little surprise then that around 1.5m people have already voted in this year’s Plus Beau Marché competition, run by TV channel TF1.

This year is the fifth year of the popular contest and 24 markets are in the running, with viewers having until June 22 to cast their votes.

Previous winners include Sanary-sur-Mer (Var); Montbrison (Loire); Dieppe (Seine-Maritime); and Étaples-sur-Mer (Pas-de-Calais).

Here are the 24 markets in the running for the title of Plus Beau Marché de France 2022 – so if you happen to be en vacances near any of these, grab your panier and treat yourself to a spot of shopping!
