Summer’s been a long time coming this year and even if you’re still not having much luck with the weather where you live, there’s nothing to stop you enjoying a drop of sunshine in a glass, all the way from the south of France.

The new vintage of Ormarine Villemarin Villemarin Picpoul de Pinet is perfect with seafood, from oysters to sea bass to good old fish and chips. In fact, as it’s National Fish & Chip Day this Thursday, June 6, it’s the perfect excuse to indulge!

Ormarine is the leading producer of Picpoul de Pinet, which is the largest and best known white wine appellation in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. The vineyards overlook the stunning Étang de Thau, a vast saltwater lagoon beside the Mediterranean shore which is famous for its oysters and other shellfish. Its sea breezes bring marine fragrances and an appealing saline taste to these popular wines.

The only producer to be located in Pinet, right at the historic heart of the appellation, Ormarine is the largest producer of Picpoul de Pinet, which is made from 100% Piquepoul blanc. Vines have been planted next to the Étang de Thau for centuries, with some of the plots in the AOC Picpoul de Pinet dating back to antiquity. The Ormarine estate is leading the way with the quality of its wines, its innovation and its sustainable practices, having earned its Terra Vitis certificate in 2018.

Zesty, bright and bursting with lemony citrus, Picpoul is a natural to enjoy with seafood, and while not quite the freshly caught oysters of the Languedoc coast, fish ‘n’ chips is an irresistible alternative. Or, if you prefer a lighter take on seafood, you could always hang on for International Sushi Day on June 18!

Ormarine Villemarin Picpoul de Pinet, 2023 costs £11.99 or £9.99 for a mix of six from Majestic Wine
