galette des rois

French bakery Paul serves up its popular galette des rois for Twelfth Night

You’ll have just finished off the last slice of bûche de Noël and before you know it, it’s time to loosen your waistband yet another notch – for nothing says Twelfth Night French-style like a galette des rois. It really is the most edible time of the year!

This buttery frangipane tart is traditionally eaten to celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany (January 6), when the three kings came to bring gifts to the baby Jesus. French artisan bakery and pâtisserie Paul is making sure we on the other side of the Channel don’t miss out, with its limited edition Galette Frangipane expected to be a sell-out again this year.

In keeping with tradition, the classic French treat is served with a golden crown and one lucky slice of galette will have a hidden ceramic charm – so be sure to chew carefully – with whoever finds the ceramic surprise being honoured as King or Queen for the day.

Priced at £18.95 and serving eight people, the Galette Frangipane will be available in all Paul shops and for delivery within the M25 from Boxing Day until the end of January 2020. Pre-order at Paul online now and receive a 10% discount or pop in to your nearest Paul shop.
