Want to raise your apéro game? Then head to Sucy-en-Brie, in the southeastern suburbs of Paris, and a shop called Les Savouristes.

The owner of said shop, Véronique Jourdain-Rumé, has just won the French aperitif board championship, held as part of the Sandwich & Snack Show at Paris’s Porte de Versailles.

Véronique, who battled it out in three technical and artistic rounds (one charcuterie, one on the theme of spring and one free choice) against four other contestants to be named Champion of France, said: “I am proud of this title, but I did not expect it – my husband did well to register me without telling me!”

Véronique says her boards in the Sandwich & Snack Show competition where inspired by the antipasti and charcuterie of Italy, where her grandfather was from.

Despite having long wanted to set up a deli such as Les Savouristes, Véronique didn’t take the plunge until lockdown saw more people enjoying apéros at home. The company offers a range of stunning deli boards and boxes, and a selection of wines to go with them, for home delivery or collection in the surrounding area. They also host regular brunches at weekends – worth checking out if you’re in the area!
