Breakfast – it’s the most important meal of the day, so why not break out of your usual humdrum routine and try something new and delicious to start the day? Okay, so you might not have time in the week, but this recipe for pain perdu by Bonne Maman is a gorgeous way to start the weekend! And if you’re feeling really inspired, you could even make your own brioche!

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Bonne Maman Damson Plum Conserve
  • 4 tbsp pressed apple juice or water
  • 2-3 plums, halved and stoned
  • 50g blueberries
  • 2 medium free-range eggs
  • 2 slices of brioche, halved into triangles

Directions

1Put the conserve and juice and water into a small pan. Stir over a medium heat until melted together. Add the plums and blueberries, and simmer together for 5 minutes until just softened. Set aside.

2Beat the eggs in a small bowl. Dunk the brioche into the eggs, taking care to cover both sides well.

3Melt some butter on a frying pan and fry the brioche for about two minutes on each side over a medium heat, until golden brown. Serve with the poached fruit.

  1. In my sweetest childhood memories of Saturdays, my father would make pain perdu as a prize for good grades or just being his princess. But I am sure the recipe was much more complicated including overnight.

Do you have one that includes overnight in fridge?

    Thanks

    • Hello Sara thank you for sharing this, I’m so happy that our recipe could remind you of your father. It is amazing how food can bring back such sweet memories. Unfortunately this recipe does not require you to soak the brioche overnight but if you head over to thespruceeats website they have a lovely overnight French Toast recipe that you could try!
