Famed the world over for the quality of its wines, Bordeaux is synonymous with elegance and sophistication. The city of Bordeaux itself is the jewel of south-west France, the old city centre having undergone a fabulous transformation, giving new life to the glorious architecture, reducing traffic and introducing a modern tramway system to lower pollution and noise levels.

To fully appreciate the beauty, charm and history of Bordeaux, two nights of the stay are in a Deluxe room at the central four-star Hôtel de Sèze, including breakfast, free access to the spa and a meal with drinks on one night. Situated a mere five-minute walk from the Grand Théâtre, the hotel is in the throbbing heart of the city, housed in an elegant 18th-century building and decorated in-keeping with the era. Cosy, intimate rooms in a relaxing, peaceful environment, ensure a good night’s sleep, waking refreshed to warm croissants and fresh coffee before exploring the city on foot or by tram.

But Bordeaux is not just about wine. It is a vibrant modern city, with a ‘what to do’ list as long as your arm. To make the most of this interesting city, a Bordeaux Metropole CityPass is provided, valid for 72 hours, giving not only unlimited free bus, tram and river shuttle travel, but entry to a whole host of museums, including the world- beating Cité du Vin and the newly opened Bassins de Lumières.

Bordeaux is the largest fine wine region in the world, so can be difficult to appreciate fully. To get to know it better, there is nothing quite like visiting the production area, to get under the skin of this most iconic of all wines. As our desire for wine discovery increases, so does our thirst for knowledge, and wine tourism is becoming one of the fastest growing specialist travel sectors.

Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey is not only a producer of one of the best sweet wines in the world – Sauternes Premier Grand Cru Classé – but also a luxury five-star hotel with a Michelin-starred restaurant. Set among a sea of vines south of Bordeaux, the hotel is linked with Lalique Crystal and is perfect for an unforgettably elegant, indulgent break, while learning about these world-famous wines. The break includes a one-night stay at this fabulous château, with breakfast and dinner with drinks. You will also be treated to a fascinating tour of the property, including a tasting of three wines produced there.
