Michelin picks 77 restaurants where you can eat for less than €45 in 2025
Michelin is all set to announce its picks of the best restaurants in France for 2025 at the end of the month in a glitzy ceremony in Metz. And as a taster, it’s revealed that 77 restaurants are being newly awarded the Bib Gourmand, a badge of excellence given to establishments that serve up fantastic French food as well as value for money, with a meal costing around €40 (or €45 in Paris).
Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, praised the resilience and passion of France’s restaurateurs despite economic challenges. “This new Bib Gourmand selection demonstrates the great vitality of the French gastronomic scene,” he said. “The inspectors have been particularly attentive to the sincerity and commitment of the restaurateurs who successfully offer authentic cuisine rooted in the local territory that is accessible to the greatest possible public, despite today’s challenging economic context.
“This year, the teams observed a spirited entrepreneurial dynamic, featuring professionals from inspiring backgrounds and restaurants that are reinventing the codes of conviviality and sharing. In its neighbourhood or on the other side of France, the Bib Gourmand is a customer favourite; a reliable spot where you can dine with complete confidence.”
This year’s selection places the spotlight on six key regions:
- Nouvelle-Aquitaine: With 13 new Bib Gourmand awards, including three in Bordeaux, the region continues to shine. Notable mentions include Kedem, celebrated for its Levantine cuisine, and establishments in Biarritz, Pau, Angoulême, and Périgueux. Female-led and family-run restaurants stand out, such as Café Louise (Périgueux), Briemm (L’Houmeau), and La Maison de Mézos (Mézos).
- Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes: Also boasting 13 new Bib Gourmand restaurants, Annecy contributes three stellar additions: ANTO, Brasserie Brunet, and Là-Haut. The inspectors particularly praised Colette (Les Salles) for its locally inspired dishes, alongside Epona (Baix) and Bistrot Brioude (Neyrac-les-Bains).
- Occitania: Featuring ten new restaurants, including Racine (Lectoure) and Côté Mas (Montagnac), Occitania impresses with a dedication to local, seasonal ingredients and a thriving culinary scene.
- Pays de la Loire: Home to nine standout restaurants between Cholet, Nantes, and Saumur, this region blends modernity and generosity. Highlights include Beau Boucot (Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef), La Table By Mi-K’L (Saumur), and L’Atelier (Montaigu), the bistro of the Michelin-starred La Robe.
- Île-de-France: Paris reaffirms its position as a culinary powerhouse with eight newly recognised Bib Gourmand restaurants. Lao Siam and Mấm From Hanoï bring vibrant Southeast Asian flavours, while Fana earns praise for its innovative desserts. Traditional French cuisine is celebrated at Le Tire-Bouchon Rodier, Capsule, and Bistrot des Fables.
- Brittany: Rennes takes centre stage with four new affordable yet high-quality dining establishments, including Fezi and Bombance. Other notable Breton selections include Récolte (Bruz), Breizh Café (Cancale), and Boma (Vannes).
This year’s selection also highlights a wave of chefs and entrepreneurs from unconventional backgrounds. Among them Ximun Etchemaïté, a former aerospace engineer who is now at the helm of his family’s Basque inn, Etchemaïté; Cédric Bruneau, an ex-pharmacist turned chef, who heads up Fezi in Rennes; and Johann Leclercq, a former literature and history professor, who works with Collis Bastel, a professional dancer-turned-chef, at Fossé Saint Ange (Richelieu).
An international flavour is evident, too, with restaurants such as Kedem (Bordeaux), Mấm From Hanoï (Paris 2nd arrondissement), and Lao Siam (Paris 19th arrondissement). Meanwhile, talented female chefs like Julia de Laguarigue (BRU, Paris 9th arrondissement), Maryse Benoit-Gonin (Café Louise, Périgueux), and Pricillia Lebon (L’Ogustin, La Vacquerie-et-Saint-Martin-de-Castries) are making their mark.
Established in 1997, the Bib Gourmand is given to restaurants offering exceptional value for money, providing a full meal (excluding drinks) at around €40 outside Paris and €45 in the capital. The full list of all 77 Bib Gourmand addresses will be revealed at the 2025 Michelin Guide ceremony, which takes place in Metz on March 31.
