Ormarine has released its elegant 2022 Picpoul de Pinet, which is sure to become this summer’s go-to for a refreshing glass of class in the sun.

Picpoul de Pinet has become arguably the most recognised white grape variety from the Languedoc. This beautiful example is from leading producer Ormarine, whose vineyards sit on southerly slopes hugging the Mediterranean coastline from the foothills of the Cévennes near Montpellier round as far as Béziers. Vines have been cultivated for centuries here and some plots have kept the same surface area and aspect since antiquity. The vineyards overlook the beautiful Étang de Thau and its oyster cabins. This vast saltwater lagoon, the second largest lake in France, lends a slight touch of salinity to the vines, making the Picpoul de Pinet taste so distinct and moreish.

Made from 100% Piquepoul Blanc grown on limestone clay soils and harvested at night to preserve the freshness and aromas of the grapes, it is certified Terra Vitis for sustainable viticulture.

The wine is clear and golden in colour with generous aromas of white flowers, passion fruit and citrus with zesty lemon notes. It is lively on the palate with an elegant finish. It pairs beautifully with seafood, especially oysters or scallops, but is just as enjoyable paired simply with a great view and the setting sun.

If you’re in the UK, you can pick up a bottle for £10 from Sainsbury’s. Cheers!
