A new world record for the largest Côte de Bœuf ever cooked

In a sizzling spectacle that would impress even the most seasoned grill master, the town of Évron in Mayenne has set a new world record for the largest côte de bœuf ever cooked.

During the town’s 2025 Meat Festival, 420 rib steaks were artfully arranged on a colossal 8m2 grill, resulting in a meaty masterpiece tipping the scales at a staggering 132kg. The bovine behemoth was flipped courtesy of a mechanical arm to ensure it was perfectly seared on all sides, and shared among the crowd – enough for 600 or so of the 2,000 meat-lovers who attended.

Côte de bœuf is a thick, bone-in rib steak prized for its rich marbling and deep flavour. Taken from the cow’s rib section, it is typically cooked whole or as large individual steaks, often grilled or roasted to highlight its juicy, tender texture. It’s a favourite in France for celebratory meals or shared feasts, where it can easily serve several diners at once – as proven by the good people of Évron!

Running since 1966, the Festival de la Viande is held every September and showcases top-tier cattle breeds like Charolais, Limousin, and Rouge des Prés, offering a platform for breeders to display their finest livestock. The festival also features a vibrant market, culinary delights, and cultural activities, making it a must-visit for foodies and families alike. Previous records set at the festival include the largest rillette sandwich and the largest beef skewer.
