Simple vin chaud

A staple of Christmas markets everywhere, mulled wine is the perfect way to unwind and thaw out. If you fancy making your own, nothing could be simpler.

Ingredients

  • A bottle of red wine it doesn’t need to be expensive
  • 130 g of sugar
  • Zest of one lemon
  • Zest and juice of one orange
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 star anise
  • 3 cloves
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg

Instructions

  • Pour the bottle of red wine into a saucepan and add all the other ingredients.
  • Bring to the boil and simmer for five minutes.
  • Taste to see if it needs more sugar.
  • Strain and serve warm.

Notes

This recipe is meant to be a starting point for experimentation and creativity. Try adding different spices or using different types of wine. You can also experiment with different types of alcohols... Try rum or even brandy, for example!
